Love Me Breakfast - Brown Sugar Broiled Grapefruit

Brown Sugar Broiled Grapefuit
It's been a while since I have done a Love Me Breakfast post.  Actually, It's been a while since I've posted.  I've been a rather busy bee around here lately and there really hasn't been time for the kitchen.

I got a bug up my butt so to say and I decided to go and paint my entire house.  There have been times I have been up to my ears in paint.  Sometimes literally.  I have found paint on my ear, my nose, my knees.....  I'll be posting pictures as soon as I take them!

What else have I been up to?  My mom and I took the kiddo's to Branson, MO for Spring Break for a couple of days.  The kids are getting older and they aren't as appreciative of the pool like they once were though.  That will probably be our last trip.  Time for something new!

Over the weekend I went to a Yoga Workshop taught by a Master Yogi - Noah Maze.  It was absolutely, incredibly amazing!  8 hours of yoga in one weekend.  Pure bliss!  I believe the number of times he adjusted me was around 10.  I haven't showered since....
See, that's me, right there on the right in the striped gray and white tank!!!!
Brown Sugar Broiled Grapefruit

  • 1 Grapefruit, cut in half
  • Brown Sugar
Instructions:
  1. Sprinkle brown sugar on cut slices of grapefruit.  Broil on high for a few minutes (until brown sugar has melted).

Have you tried making grapefruit this way? If not, you should! The brown sugar gets a little crispy and it's delightful!

Spring Flowers

Spring is natures way of saying, "Let's party!" ~ Robin Williams

When the weather warms up and the flowers arrive Natalie and I just can't resist but purchase a few and plant them.

This little girl likes to dress like it's August as soon as the sun begins to warm her shoulders.

But the nights turn chilly and she changes her clothes yet once again.

She will play outside until the street lights go on and then she reluctantly comes home to snuggle in for some family time.

Our new door mat we bought at Pier 1.
I wonder what adventures she has in store for today?

Love me Breakfast!

If you're a religious reader of Deelicious Sweets (as you should be) then you all know that I love me breakfast!

I'm sharing only two breakfasts that I had last week.  The first one a frozen gluten free waffle from Kinnikinnick - say that 3 times fast.  Hell, say it once!  I of course toasted it and put a dollop of Almond Butter in between the two and on top and covered it in strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, and raspberries.  Perfection!  And, it stuck to my ribs pretty good as well.

The second breakfast was French Toast.  It's similar to the one I linked only without the blueberry compote and I used a Ciabatta roll instead of sourdough.  It's my favorite french toast recipe evah!

I also like to buy myself fresh flowers!

Random Thoughts

There's a utility worker in my neck of the woods who wears this white cowboy hat.  This is Missouri.  The only time I ever see anyone wearing a cowboy hat around these here parts is when I look at myself in the mirror before I go to the pool during the summer.  Yet, there he is, in the middle of winter, proudly donning his cowboy hat.  My hats off to him!

What do you think about Paula Deen's admission to having diabetes - Three. Years. Later? This woman is a public figure who is well liked and looked up to.  She had the opportunity to change people's lives for the better.  Does the choice she made lower your opinion of her in any way?  Here's a great write up in regard to her choice.

Did you sign the petition to stop a crazy bill that could put our blogs, twitter, facebook, youtube, etc. in jeapordy?

A Life in General Post

My son got a haircut this weekend and on the way home he was very upset with his haircut because it was shorter than he had anticipated.  I asked him what was bothering him so much about it.  He replied that the kids at school were going to call him gay for getting a new haircut.  Sure enough, he went to school yesterday and he told me that around 15 kids told him he was gay for having short hair.  One of his responses to these hateful idiots was, "My hair looks just like yours.  Does that make you gay, too?"

Unfortunately, I don't think these kids realize that by calling someone gay is hurting their "friends" feelings.  They don't realize that one of their "friends" is scared to death to go to school looking different from the last time they saw him.  Luke was able to stand up for himself, this time.  Let's hope he is just as strong the next time something about him changes.  What about the kids who aren't strong enough?  I dread to think of how they may handle a situation like that.

I'm guessing that these hateful kids have parents, grandparents, guardians, whatever the case may be who are more than likely close-minded, hateful people and their children are listening to what they are saying at home.  Do these parents feel it's not important to teach their children that people are different and it's okay to be different?

Kids are mean.  I try to raise my children to be as open as I am about people.  No matter their color, race, sexual orientation, religion...  I would never want my child to be the one calling another child names because he or she was different from the way they are.  Every single one of those people who are "different" has feelings just like we do, they have moms and dads and sisters and brothers who love them.  They put their pants on the same way you do.  They eat the things you eat.  They sleep, they drink, they drive, they get sick, they love, they hate, they feel!

So the next time you look at someone and see their differences, don't judge them.  Open your heart and your mind and you may find yourself a new friend!

Week to Week

Hello there my lovely friends!  This has been a crazy two weeks.  My yoga instructor had to go to a teacher training in Colorado leaving behind her studio to little 'ole moi!  Which meant I had to teach every one of her classes - Monday - Thursday - 2 classes a day + Friday - 1 class + Saturday - 1 class = 12 classes.  She doesn't get back until Tuesday.  It's been nothing but yoga, yoga, yoga over here!

If you're looking for me today I can be found over at Kim's blog Losing it Like a Lunatic.  I'm guest posting for her Fitness Friday and I'm talking about, yep, you guessed it, YOGA!

Some of you may already know Kim.  She's the loony behind Cravings of a Lunatic.  If you haven't visited Cravings of a Lunatic, what are you waiting for?   This girl can make a pizza - starting from the dough - that will knock you freaking socks off!  I speak from experience here, I've made it.  It's fabulous!  If you're looking for healthier bites, then you need to run over and check out her Losing it Like a Lunatic where she shares her daily struggles with eating better and leading a healthier lifestyle.  She is one of my dearest blogger friends.  You could say we were BBFF's - Best Blogger Friends Forever!  She can make you laugh every time you visit her.  She truly is a down to earth kind of gal that you would totally hang with.  I only wish that we lived closer.  She's in Canada and I'm here in Missouri which makes for a great distance!  We need passports to visit each other!

Snickerdoodles!
In sweeter news, I did a guest post for Laura Jeanne at A Healthy Jalapeno on Tuesday.  You may remember that she guest posted for me that same day with her fabulous Autumn Fruit Salad.  Not only will you want to run over to A Healthy Jalapeno to check out my guest post, Laura Jeanne has a surprise waiting over there for you!  She hit 1,000 fans on Facebook last night and she's having a giveaway to celebrate!  A year subscription to Martha Stewart's Everyday Food magazine!  If you missed both posts - shame on you!  Run over and check them out.  Well, what are you still doing here?  I said GO!

November Leaves - #thanksq01

“Fallen leaves lying on the grass in the November sun bring more happiness than the daffodils”

Blue skies and autumn leaves - #thanksq01
Welcome to November!  A month to be thankful for all that we have.  We should take this month to practice loving-kindness exercises that cultivate habits of compassion for ourselves and others.  By staying with our feelings in an alert and non-judgmental way, we begin to gain the courage to attend to our own tender heart by accepting who we are, warts and all.  As this friendship with ourselves begins to blossom so will our friendship with others.  We will begin to recognize other peoples' hearts and feel inspired to be kind to them as well.  We all have the ingredients of non-grasping wakefulness, compassion, benevolent energy, and disciplined power that make up the recipe for interacting intelligently, soulfully and spontaneously with ourselves, each other, our family, and the world.

With that said, I am participating in the thanksq.  I heard about it from Cassie over at Bake Your Day.  Beth from Hope Lives put all of this together for us and I'm excited to participate.  I hope that you do too!

Guidelines for Thanks² (from the thanks² Facebook page)

1. Take a picture on your phone with Instagram (iphone) or Retrocamera (android, etc).  Both are free apps, so as long as you have a smart phone – you’re good to go!   The point is, that both of these take square pictures – thus, thanks², aka thanks squared.  But even if you don’t have a smart phone, if your phone can take photos – use that.  No need for anything fancy.  It’s all about the simplicity.

2. Write one line (poetry, prose) that pairs with your image as a caption.

3. When you post your image, please tag @thanks² (if you can–you may not be able to from your phone) and tag it with “thanksq” + the 2-digit day of the month – e.g. #thanksq01

*Note: If you can do it every day – great; if you can’t – no worries.  :)
*Follow along on Facebook on the thanks² page.

Tongue Twister

My son just came home from school and shared a tongue twister his teacher taught him.  Now, I'm sharing it with you.  Cuz I lurve you!

You know the drill.  Say it 3 times fast!

I slit a sheet
A sheet I slit
Upon a slitted sheet I sit

Well, how did you do?  You didn't say any naughty words did you?

Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies and Catch Up!

I taught my first Yoga class last Monday.  I was nervous as hell!  I'm a yogi, aren't I supposed to be zen and all?  In case I was horrible I made Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies.  If I wasn't able to find my way to their hearts through my teaching then I would find my way to their hearts through their stomachs! Since then, I have taught 5 more classes and I'm feeling more comfortable.  Oh, and the class loved the cookies and my class!  SCORE!

Chocolate Chip Cookies - Vegan

by Deelicious Sweets
Keywords: dessert snack vegan cookie
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 Tbsp. tapioca flour
  • 12 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly grease two large baking sheets.
Combine sugars, oil, almond milk, and tapioca flour in a mixing bowl. Use a strong fork and mix really well, for about 2 minutes, until the mixture resembles smooth caramel (I used my mixer). There is a chemical reaction when sugar and oil collide, so it's important that you don't get lazy about that step. Mix in the vanilla.
Add 1 cup of the flour, the baking soda, and the salt. Mix in the rest of the flour. Fold in the chocolate chips. The dough will be a little stiff so use your hands to really work the chips in (I used my mixer).
For 3-inch cookies, roll the dough into balls about the size of Ping-Pong balls. Flatten them out in your hands to about 2 1/2 inches. As they cook, they will spread just a bit. Place on a baking sheet and bake for about 8 minutes - no more than 9 until they are just a little browned around the edges. Let cool on a baking sheet for about 5 minutes then transfer to wire rack.
